Time Domain
Thermoreflectance

The Time Domain Thermoreflectance (TDTR) technique employed by TherMap Solutions utilises a nano-second pulsed pump laser to periodically heat a sample surface.

A continuous wave probe laser monitors the sample thermal dissipation between heating pulses by measuring variations in the surface reflectivity.

As the rate of sample cooling is dependant on its thermophysical properties, the observed probe signal decay is fitted against an optimised heat transfer model to elucidate thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity and thermal boundary resistance.

Time Domain Thermoreflectance is an extremely surface sensitive technique, optimised for thermal characterization of thin films and multi-layer structures with <10μm layer thicknesses.
